Working on a new editor (again)! This one simulates letterpress where you make digital layouts with cut-outs from old scanned type specimens, all in type size so the images could be recreated in with real type on real letterpress! It supports all point sizes and shapes, so it's not restricted to square shapes.

This image is made with ornaments from the 1880 Fonderie typographique Gustave Mayeur type specimen, using type ornament I call "ivy combination".

I've been seeing a few toots about getting off the corporate web and getting back to something more personal. Let me put in a plug for our dear old https://sdf.org/ . If you were an internet kid in the 80s and 90s, SDF has everything you want. Web(1.0) hosting, email, shell access, gopher, Gemini (no, not that one), chat, web radio and more. Over the past few days, I’ve been implementing grouped photo views for cameras, lenses, and film stocks. Today, I deployed this feature to vernissage.photos. “Categories” in the top navigation has been replaced by “Explore,” where you can browse categories, cameras, lenses, and film stocks used to take the photos. This is one of those features you would be hard-pressed to find on other (non-photography-focused) Fediverse platforms. 🤩

@hongminhee misskey started much before any notion of ActivityPub and had many of its defining features before it was a part of the fediverse. I would assume this is the reason for the strange mismatch

I have a crazy idea and it is that we should have a World Bitmap Font Week, to celebrate the culture of bitmap fonts, and perhaps pay thanks for their work and contributions to society. Also we can make some fonts.

At this stage it is just an idea, but with a few more people i think we could have a few coordinated blog posts, and maybe some tools, tutorials, and even workshops? I suggest the 10 days starting 2026-10-19.
