I use both Song Sleuth and Smart Bird ID (iOS). Fairly decent. I wouldn’t bet any significant bet on it’s accuracy 100% of the time. I’m no birder, but it seems to work well enough for my purposes.

Didn’t downvote you however, are you saying if I ran an AI model local, that scorching the planet and turning the tap water brown is ok with you, just because it’s local?. Because that’s exactly what we’re are doing when we access the internet. Throw AI out of the scope, and we’re still pumping massive amounts of carbon in to the air, still turning the water brown. There are 8.4 billion people on this planet. Approximately 6.3 billion of them are online. That’s just individual humans. That doesn’t include the hundreds of thousands of data centers that aren’t even connected with AI and all the energy production to make them run.

So, who will be the first to actually practice what you preach and shut down your servers and internet devices? C’mon…make the first step towards a cleaner planet.

If you’re speaking of audio analysis ML or AI models, they are quite efficient. As a mediocre musician, who is clinically deaf and cannot hear some frequencies with enough clarity to make a judgement either way, I lean on AI assisted audio mastering. I haven’t dabbled in AI generated music, but with the right DAW and a handful of plugins, some keyboards and instruments, you can do a lot right in the comfort of your home.

I’ll bump you an upvote. I have used AI for a lot of things around the lab. For one, it makes a very concise search engine. This is just for my personal use, and it works fairly well. Sometimes I’ll make the same query to several AI platforms just to get an overall view of how to proceed. It’s a tool, might as well use it.

Even in the case of longstanding, well established projects, we’re seeing AI being involved to some extent or the other. Like you, I’ve used AI to create a small handful of things for my server. One would be when I log in via SSH, there is a banner that pulls a random song from Navidrome’s playlists and displays it on the MOTD. For instance, today’s is:

Preach it! Dev toils away at creating an app. Dev releases it to the public for free with no obligations whatsoever, to even consider it. Dev gets hammered for a variety of things including AI. Go make your own app and release it to the public and see how that goes. It’s a mote/beam kind of thing.

OOoops! Sorry about that. Yeah, Feishin is an awesome player and has no issues with huge playlists. In the UI, it nopes out. That’s my only real complaint.

I think what the devs are saying is ‘don’t expose Jellyfin to the public in an unsafe manner’. I don’t run Jellyfin, but can confirm what you’ve read here. In that vein, don’t expose anything to the public in an unsafe manner.

Question: Is there a hard limit for playlists? Reason being, I have a rather large collection I have converted from the physical media to flac. I have a playlist that is edging 100k songs. When I try to play it in the Navidrome UI, it takes at least 5+ minutes to even begin to play, and then forwarding to another song is neigh impossible. I can play other playlists smaller than that in the UI. Feishin, which is indirectly routed through Cloudflare, and not taping the local IP of the server, has no issues playing the playlist in question. Substreamer, iOS, has no problem either.

I recommend Navidrome for music. The only issue I have with Navidrome is that with a playlist that contains a large collection of music, bogs down to the point of being inoperable. So, I have to split the playlist into smaller chunks.

I did try the video, however Firefox reported that the video was slowing down everything.

That’s pretty wild man! I don’t think I’ve ever seen this type of app in selfhosting.
