Very few people all that upset about ML in general, it’s technology that’s been around a very long time and historically has not consumed 40% of global water supplies. But now it is.

If they could go back to not doing that I could go back to not being upset by it.

Colloquially it’s called the United States of America.

In order for AI to have a market there would need to be a launch large scale demonstration of the uses and benefits of AI in many various industries, most of which do not involve image generation or writing a single line of computer code.

I’m so sick of asking people for demonstrations of AI use and it being 100% programmers going “oh it’s really good at writing functions”, now I have no idea if it is, or isn’t, any good at writing functions, but since I don’t write functions, that example is of no use to me.

I want to know how good it is at writing technical documentation for proprietary hardware solutions that the AI will have no experience of in its training set, because I suspect it sucks at it. How good is it at taking poorly written guides in Chinese, translated into English via Klingon and ancient Babylonian, how does it handle it if it comes across the sentence “absolutely do not ever warning” with no additional information as to what I absolutely should never not do. Because that’s when thinking is involved, and AI doesn’t think.

Ship them outside the US and then someone can use them as webcams

If I lived in the US I’d just go around in blacked out sunglasses the whole time because there’s so many things that you better not see.

Don’t even understand what this AI feature was even supposed to be for. I’m certainly not going to rely on an AI to annotate satellite imagery. This was always just a stupid marketing thing with no real purpose behind it.

For all of Google’s faults, which of course are numerous, they do have some really talented engineers working for them, and it’s just a shame that their time is constantly wasted on crap like this rather than on useful features that people would actually benefit from.

My parents have a car with remote start, and I’ve never been able to understand what the advantages are supposed to be. The only time that they’ve ever used it was when they first got it, and were playing with it.

Ah ha, my clever plan has been poor and not being able to afford to buy a brand new BMW, has paid off.

I suppose better in this case means accurate.

Unless you just need the image to be off to the side of a PowerPoint presentation and no one’s really supposed to pay any attention to it I can’t really see how I could rely on an AI to produce an output that I want.

I would prefer to have human generated images in all those cases, education needs to be accurate or it’s not worth it, I don’t want the AI interpreting what the pyramids used to look like I want a render based on archaeologists analysis. A new development will have a particular look, in order for the image to be useful it has to be an accurate representation of the building, an AI will just put something generic there.

What’s this, consequences, who do thunk it?

The thing is it would be pretty disutopian to put cameras everywhere but you could use it to reduce crime, or at least a certain type of crime, but you would have to have actually decent software. But they don’t even do that.

Surely they cannot possibly arrest somebody on charges of looking moderately similar to somebody from a 720p black and white CCTV camera. If it was a 4K full colour straight-on head shot and maybe but not the crap that convenience stores put up.

I used to work as a security guard, I don’t think any of the places I guarded had security cameras that would be good enough to stand up in court. Even the banks had crap low frame rate noisy cameras. The CCTV industry appears to be about 25 years behind the rest of the world when it comes to camera sensors.

I do not understand how u.s law works because it never seems to work the way that it’s supposed to work.

In any sensible society the way to deal with that would be to contest the ticket, go to your local traffic court, and show them that it’s clearly not your license plate and the license plate pictured is not registered to you. That should surely be the end of it.

Of course in any sensible society it wouldn’t be allowed to get that far because a system with a 71% failure rate, would never be deployed.

I applied for a job and they wanted me to take a polygraph test, reasonably confident that my eye rolling at that request was probably what resulted me not been offered a third interview. Though to be honest bullet dodge on that one, would you really want to work for a complete that does polygraph tests, they probably would have made take personality tests too told me I was a kinesthetic learner or whatever.

I’m pretty sure that if you showed me a license plate for one second and then took it away I would have a pretty good idea of what it was and would be able to subsequently identify it with greater accuracy then 29% of the time.

It’s just part of outlook that’s on by default. I don’t think anybody cares because nobody’s personal emails are accessed via outlook, is 100% business users. The AI can read those emails as much as it wants for all I care
