UBI has been demonstrated to work in test environments that were not able to isolate all externalities. It might work at scale, but that isn’t testable currently; you’d have to have a massive social experiment.

There’s also the problem that UBI would be putting everyone’s entire means for subsistence up to the whims of the government, which I would think would horrify more people. I dont trust my government to fill the potholes, let alone make sure I’m surviving and thriving.

If you take it a step further, such a society would also have very little content on OnlyFans in the first place, since many of those creators surely do so for lack of other options to make a living, which is caused by many of the same societal ills.

That said, marketing sex appeal is not, in itself, one of those ills. For example, a prostitute is not necessarily exploitative, but a pimp almost certainly is, especially in a black market.

Markets do have rules, though; rules are essentially all they are. If you play by a different set of rules than me, depending on what they are, it could result in one of us always winning every interaction because of the way the rules fail to line up.

In those scenarios, we have to be OK with that, agree to the same rules, or decide independently or together to play separately. Instead, we’re choosing option #1 and bitching incessantly about the unfairness. We can try the other options, but elites, at least until very recently, have been content to sell the future for more in the present. Now that it is “the future”, its biting them too and they suddenly see the issue.
