apparently thinking copyright is shit makes me an AI lackey. good to know. *plonk*

fwiw the copyright arguments about GenAI do not hold water with me. copyright is the tool of the noble classes, and should be abolished. the fix is, and has always been, to abolish copyright.
what arguments *do* hold water with me are the political ones: commercial GenAI represents the greatest concentration of money & political power our generation has ever seen.
my arguments *against* GenAI in alpine, and in my own projects, are based on a risk analysis of that concentration of power: as maintainers we cannot protect our autonomy, nor our projects' sovereignty, in an era where we become dependent on GenAI. the people who control our access to GenAI technology will, instead, be the person who exercises total control over FOSS projects which embrace GenAI.
well, this is yet another red line that has been crossed.
i don't even, man

"unprivileged? ring 0?"
yes. from the *platform* perspective, ring 0 is still user-controlled code, and thus must be considered by the platform to be unprivileged code, even if it has more privilege than rings greater than 0 (e.g. ring 3 userspace).
the *platform* must consider the ring0 kernel to be adversarial.

@mewsleah from the platform perspective, ring 0 *is* unprivileged.

@viq yes, it is for ANC. i would like to replace "chaotic loud" with "orderly loud"
the tl;dr on that exploit (which is novel research) is that AMD fucked up and made the memory controller configuration registers unprivileged (at the platform level, which exists in rings below 0), so you can just reprogram them from ring 0.
this is, needless to say, a phenomenal fuckup on AMD's side, but does not need 10,000 words of AI slop to explain.

@atax1a the writeup did seem very wordy, i suspected it was slop

open to suggestions on an acceptable replacement
in the apple ecosystem airpods work well with third-party foam tips
but, sadly, the pixel buds seem to be really picky after whatever firmware has been released recently
and yes, compatibility with foam tips is a must-have here
i am a very vocal pro-plushie person

this is particularly annoying because it's due to using third-party tips, which i do for sensory reasons
roughly 8 months into owning a pair of pixel buds 2 pro, i have to say i don't recommend them. they are starting to develop the click of death.

incidentally, eVTOL octocopters look neat, and if they were say, $5-10k, i would probably hatch a plan to buy one.
Replying to @ariadne@social.treehouse.systems
since signing up for TEMU a month ago, when i wanted to find out more about eVTOL octocopters (that unfortunately are $50k), i have received 793 unsolicited emails from TEMU.
one should never sign up for TEMU. this will be your prize.
i just wanted to buy an eVTOL octocopter, man. well, until i found out they are $50k.
