“But optical discs are an old technology, everyone uses SSDs! Tape drives are even older technology! We need to SSD everything! SSD good! Oh no, why is that external SSD I haven’t powered up for five years and kept important file on it for fast access suddenly died? It was supposed to be the optical CDs that flake off and oxidize in a year or two!”

So it’s just “AI is making up stuff that is vaguely resembling its training material” yet again…

Someone who’s more versed with techbro and TESCREAL lore: Does the spiral ring anything to you? I suspect some intentional manipulation from the AI vendors.

If corporate lets them use Qt instead of Electron, yes. If not, we will continue to see memory usage rises all over the place.

Have seen multiple ones going back to Windows after years of Linux usage, usually those who saw Linux as not a tool, but a “hobby OS” to tinker with. The moment stuff became “way too easy”, they left. (Also they’re usually bigots, and didn’t like the “trans coder” stereotype.)

This sounds like something that should be illegal.

The worst thing that ever happened to social media was capitalism.
Capitalism ruins everything.

The next big thing in AI is “if LLMs reach sentience and AGI status, they’ll be doing even more great things”.

Issue is, the AI accelerationist cult has planned out every scenario, and they have a very good plan to amaze politicians. That’s why the bubble haven’t burst yet.

Will the AI CEOs molest AI children on an AI generated private island?

And why they’re jacking up the hardware prices.
Replying to @sanitation@lemmy.today
Yes, but only if either the required hardware becomes affordable (don’t expect frontier models to run on 5090s, let alone on the 1050Ti you’re keeping as a backup), or somehow the models become more efficient. Even if by reduced capability, which might be a good thing in the grand scheme of things. Some people use overengineered frontier models as synonym search engines.

Besides the usual CEO shenanigans, they really want AI to succeed, to replace usually leftist intellectuals with a far-right AI.

People still ignore IDEs. In fact, in certain circles, it is seen as a badge of honor to use Vim or Emacs instead of some modern solution.

We could have avoided it if politicians didn’t fell for big tech’s tricks…

People who think they (still) make nice hardware. If anything, they made hardware worse by setting trends other manufacturers now also follow.

Shit like this just makes me wanna delete all the Apple compatibility stuff from my open source projects. It’s not like they’re fully realized (I cannot afford a Mac, not even a used one), but it just demotivates me from supporting their OSes and hardware.
