I tried Bluesky. I noticed two overwhelming trends that led to my hasty departure:

Wishful thinking left-wing politics. Encouraging people to pretend like how things ought to be is how things are, and to act accordingly. This is lazy and disastrous thinking, both because it overlooks the real systemic change that needs to happen to get to where you want to be. Though, in fairness, there is quite a bit of this on Lemmy too.

Extremely popular poster who spent their entire careers making the Trump presidency a certainly trying to back pedal on Trump specifically. No mention of their awful ideas they still keep and spread that lead to such an outcome. Lots of thumbs up and people saying “see, they get it” while also not connecting the dots, as if Project 2025 fell from the sky and wasn’t the product of decades of effort.

It’s an idiot convention.

While I get that this is the narrative, people are overstating this case. High end sodium batteries have a similar energy density range to lower end lithium batteries (~150-175 wh/kg). This idea that people wouldn’t buy a battery that is cheaper, safer, and has a much longer cycle life if it weighs a bit more or only runs 80% as long between the faster charges is puzzling at best.

In two weeks when SPCX employees can sell, please let them cash out and resign as hard as possible. They’re reasonable intelligent people who know the promises are science fantasy, so this is a plausible scenario. Then, as investors lose faith, Tesla enters true freefall right as fElon tries to leverage his shares to float SPCX. Let this Icarus of Grift come spiraling down so we never have to hear about him or his cultists again.

The current administration is claiming AI is absolutely essential to our national security, scientific research, energy, and everything else. This is all being done by political appointees who know next to nothing in general, and even less about the history and current state of “AI”. Being ordered by people who do not care about wasting taxypayer money or running up absurd deficits. Bailout incoming.
