blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/08/5.0-laying-the-foundation/There's a scammer spamming messages to people where they pretend to be a Pixelfed admin, asking people to "verify" their identity due to "unusual activity".
It is a scam, real admins never send messages like this. The link in the message is trying to trick people into giving out their personal details, don't click on it.
If you get a message like this, click ⋯ on the scam post and then select "report", then follow the instructions.
— Open image attachment 1 of 1⚠️ Spammers from a site called SocialDB.xyz seem to be flooding Mastodon members with emails claiming to offer sponsorship opportunities (which is dubious to say the least).
It's probably best to just ignore these emails, report them as spam and do not click on any of their links.
They seem to be getting email addresses from websites mentioned in Mastodon profiles, if the site has a public email address. The spam assumes the linked site belongs to the account owner.
